A Garden and Home Décor with School Spirit

College graduations are upon us and many recent graduates are making that exciting, yet terrifying transition to adulthood. Just because you are graduating doesn’t mean that you have to say goodbye to the past four years of your life. You can have a grown-up space and show your school spirit at the same time.

Artificial Bromeliad

Outside

When you are moving into your own place for the first time, take school pride into consideration when planning your garden. Plants are available in virtually any color, making it easy to echo your school colors in your landscape. As an FSU grad, I am instantly drawn to any window box or garden featuring garnet and gold plants. Bougainville, impatiens, hibiscus and bromeliads all come in a wide range of colors that are perfect for this application. Here are places to interject your school colors in a bright, yet sophisticated way.

  • Window Boxes
  • Front Gardens
  • Planter Boxes
  • Flowers Around Mailboxes
  • Lining a Walkway

Inside

School spirit can be used throughout your home, and without having your school mascot’s image plastered on your walls. Some color combinations lend themselves to wall colors easily, such as yellow. Others should be used more sparingly. If you have a bright and bold team color such as orange, bright blue, or purple, consider purchasing throw pillows for the couch. You can also buy a small piece of accent furniture that is painted a bold color. Just because the color is too intimidating for walls doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t make a gorgeous side table, stool, or night stand. Here are some ways to interject your school spirit into your home decor.

  • Floral arrangements
  • Accent Furniture
  • Pillows
  • Blankets
  • Frames
  • Drapes
  • Bathroom Towels
