Beat the Heat with these Outdoor Decorating Ideas

Blistering temperatures don’t have to mean that you can no longer enjoy your deck or patio. There are a number of ways to beat the heat with patio furniture and accessories. Today, I am going to list my favorite outdoor decorating ideas for summer.

1. Cantilever Umbrellas

What’s not to love about these gorgeous patio umbrellas? The large canopy reaches over a seating area, dining table, even a sandbox. Not only does it provide important sun protection, but it also keeps the area below it much cooler. This beautiful umbrella is available in both green and burnt orange.

2. Serving Carts

No outdoor design is complete without a great serving cart. This versatile piece of outdoor furniture is a great all-season selection. In the summer, stock it with pitchers of ice cold beverages, a bucket of ice, and some glassware. No matter how long you are outside, refreshing drink is close at hand.

3. Outdoor Curtains

If you have a pergola or covered patio, adding outdoor curtains can make all the difference. Pull the curtains back when it is cooler outside and draw them closed when you need some added shade. As the sun shifts, you have the freedom of changing which curtains are open and which ones are closed. The best part is this gives you a great opportunity to infuse your own style into the space. Will you go crisp and white or bold with a print fabric?

4. Patio Coolers

I know that patio coolers seem like an obvious choice but I am not talking about those big plastic tailgating coolers. Today, it is easy to find patio coolers and ice buckets with some real style and flare. Whether you love the rugged masculinity of the 20 gallon Oakland Living cooler or the sophistication of an ice bucket and stand, you will be glad to have one of these on your deck.

5. Outdoor Ceiling Fans

When you are designing an outdoor space, consider calling an electrician in to add the appropriate wiring for a ceiling fan. If you don’t have overhead wiring, standing fans can offer all the same benefits. Position your most used patio furniture under the fan and it will stay noticeably cooler than the rest of your outdoor space.
