Planning Your Holiday Decorations

With Halloween behind us and the orange and black decorations packed away and sent back up to the attic for another year, it is the perfect time to start planning your holiday decorations. You can get a home that looks like it was taken out of your favorite decorating magazines when you take a little time to do some planning. Getting ready for the Christmas season is as easy as three little steps.

Flocked Alaskan Christmas Tree

1. Assess What You Have
Go through your boxes of holiday decorations and make a list of what you have that is in good shape, pitch what isn’t, and make a list of the things that you used to love but which are no longer in good shape so that you an replace them. Taking a moment to remind yourself what you have will keep you from purchasing duplicates and allow you to build from there.

2. Get Inspired
Look through your favorite magazines, store catalogs, and websites to find an inspiration room. Are you drawn to classic red and green color schemes or are you looking for something more on-trend, like a complete tree decked out in all silver ornaments of varying sizes, shapes and textures. Keep that inspiration on-hand when you are shopping for easy reference.

3. Do Some Space Planning
Every home is different. Because of that, it is important to take a moment to look at each room of your home and decide what the room will need for the holidays. This may require you to get out a measuring tape to help you determine what length you want garlands to be, how wide you want wreaths to be, and how tall you want your Christmas tree to be. This is especially important if you have recently moved or if you are decorating a new room in your home.

If you take a day to do this three-step pre-planning your decorations will be the envy of all your guests.
