Floral Inspired DIY Coasters

Why spend $25 dollars on coasters when you can make a custom set for just $10 in supplies. I am always looking for a fast and easy project to do during my son’s nap time and this was a great one. I needed a set of coasters for my bedroom, which is painted a beautiful nautical aqua. I knew I wanted them to have a floral theme, since I am constantly sitting at my desk writing about flowers and plants. That is when I decided to combine floral scrapbook paper and colorful striped scrapbook paper to make my 4-piece set of DIY coasters.

Supplies:

  • Set of Ceramic Coasters (Michaels $2)
  • Bottle of Mod Podge (Matte or Shiny Finish $8)
  • Foam Brush
  • 2 Sheets of Scrapbook Paper in Desired Prints
  • Paper Cutter

Step 1:

Cut two 4 inch squares out of each of your scrapbook paper. Lay them on top of the coasters to make sure that they fit perfectly and if not, trim some more.

Step 2:

Paint a thin coat of Mod Podge onto the top of the ceramic coaster using your foam brush. Lay down one of the paper squares and press down firmly, working out any air bubbles.

Step 3:

Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge over the surface of the coaster, making sure to cover the entire surface of the paper and along the edges. Allow the coat to dry. Do this process to all 4 of your coasters.

Step 4:

Continue adding more thin coats of Mod Podge until you have 4 or 5 coats applied. Allow them to dry overnight or until they are no longer tacky.

Enjoy your finished project. These are so much fun that you can make a different set for every room of your home, simply by choosing papers that coordinate with your decor. They also make fantastic teacher appreciation gifts, Christmas gifts, and birthday gifts. If you try this at home be sure to send us a picture of your finished coasters.
