Create a Seating Area with Adirondack Chairs and a Fire Pit

I have one of those neighborhoods where every night children are out playing in the street and riding bikes. The parents are lined up in folding chairs in the driveway keeping a close eye and talking to one another until the sun goes down. If this sounds like your neighborhood, why not trade in those uncomfortable folding chairs and create an inviting outdoor sitting area in your front yard by placing a fire pit in front of a pair of adirondack chairs. Not only will that fire pit extend the number of months that you can sit outside, but it is also the ideal place to sit and roast s’mores with the rest of the neighborhood.

Designing This Space at Home

The first thing that you have to do is designate a space for your sitting area. Some large stone tiles placed in your flower bed act as a mini deck. Laying them down is an easy weekend project, just make sure that your soil is flat and compact prior to laying them down. To keep maintenance low, you could also add a weed barrier below the tiles to keep pesky weeds from sprouting up in between them.

Once your tiles have gone down it is time to select a fire pit. There are so many different varieties of fire pits available today that there is sure to be one that works with your design aesthetic. This homeowner chose a round black fire pit that features a tile ledge along the perimeter. This is a great choice if you also want to have a place to set a drink. If this style doesn’t appeal to you, go for a more rustic option such as a patina fire pit or more modern with a gas fire pit.

Use the fire pit that you selected as your jumping off point for selecting a pair of adirondack chairs. These traditional outdoor chairs are available in stained wood or a durable poly material that comes in dozens of color options. No matter which you choose, you will get a great chair with an angled seat that promotes ultimate relaxation. If you really want to kick back, add an ottoman. Make sure that you have enough chairs for everyone in your family because this front yard sitting area is sure to become a favorite place for family members and house guests to hang out.
