DIY Trick or Treat Tote Bags

Get your kids ready for an evening of collecting mass amounts of candy by letting them decorate their own trick or treat tote bags. I purchased three tote bags (one for each of my kids) for just $1 each at the craft store. I added to it a 6-pack of 3-D fabric paint in neons and glow in the dark colors. When all was said and done, my kids made all three of these tote bags for just $10 total. Decorate them to coordinate with your child’s costume or go with standard Halloween images such as pumpkins, ghosts, and bats. Whatever you do, have fun with it and spend an evening crafting with your kids. My girls are just 5 years old and did a great job for their first time working with puff paint.

Supply List

  • Black Tote Bags
  • 3 Dimensional Fabric Paint
  • White Fabric Pencil

Step 1:
Use the white fabric pencil to draw your favorite Halloween images directly onto the tote bag. If you have small children, you may want to do this step for them. If you have older kids, let them do this step all on their own so they can show off their artwork.

Step 2:
Let your kids follow the lines they drew with white pencil with the 3-dimensional fabric paint. They may want to do a practice line on a napkin.

Step 3:
Continue tracing all the white lines until the whole front of the tote bag is complete. Don’t forget to add your name as well. When your images are done being traced, leave the bags on a flat surface until they are completely dry.
