An office, small or big, should create an atmosphere that is conducive to work. The environment, the creation of a working environment, depends largely on interior d￩cor.
Not just the convenient office furniture or a change in working conditions makes this possible. Man is a lover of Nature and Beauty and wishes to
have about him beautiful things. He is also one who reacts to slaving. Thus he has always been trying to find ways to get out of this rat race and assembly-line work.
Present day offices have lost their conventional appearance, with lot of furniture strewn about, and people crowding. The old 9-5 rigor is gone.
Alvin Toffler, the great American futurist, predicted that the offices of future would no more resemble those present in the eighties either in form or character but would be more a place where
people go to work in a very casual manner and at times of their choice. They may not work with files and bundles of documents but attend to work with electronic gadgets, either from home or at the
office. The place itself would be more like a place of entertainment or park, where people go to spend their time with all willingness.
Many of our present day offices have made their premises so beautiful through the adoption of proper interior and outdoor decoration. They have
created such congenial atmosphere that people love to visit the offices and work there.
The interior decoration in an office environment
should make the officials feel at home and make visitors feel confident. The walls, their color and tone, the wall plaques, the flower arrangements, the table top decorations all count toward the creation of a beautiful
environment. The rugs add to the beauty and act as noise reducers and ward of echo. The monotony of waiting is removed through the convenient furniture and visual themes.
The building up of confidence is done indirectly by the presence of tall palm trees outside of office, a tall tree in the foyer-if possible - or proper topiaries in the waiting room. Green sooths and invigorates. The
reception and office cabinets or rooms can be decorated with proper table top pieces and the wall with artistic paintings and plaques. The dotting of the office with beautiful planters having artificial silk plants, bonsai or topiaries, enhance its beauty and destroys the empty feeling.
